Templates as objects

From WorkWithPlus 12, the WorkWithPlus templates are defined as a new GeneXus object type called "WorkWithPlus Template":

The Work With Objects browser dialog is filtered by Type = "WorkWithPlus Template" (indicated by a red arrow at the Type dropdown), listing template objects from the WWPBaseObjects module such as AddGridItems, Association, AssociationSel, CardsMenu, CardWithMainImage, CardWithSmallImage, Chat, Completed, CreateData, Dashboard1 through Dashboard6, Data, Empty, InfiniteScrolling, and InvoiceStyle1-3, with Name, Type, Module, and Description columns.

The main advantage of this new approach is that you will be able to export and import templates from different KBs easier. You will export a "WorkWithPlus Template" object as any other GeneXus object, just using the Knowledge Manager-->Import/Export features:

The Export Objects dialog shows an Export File Name field set to a path ending in MyTemplates.xpz, with an Options link below. Checkboxes for 'Add Knowledge Base/Version/Environment properties to list' and 'Export All' are unchecked, and the object tree lists the WorkWithPlus Template node expanded to show WWPBaseObjects.Chat, WWPBaseObjects.CardWithSmallImage, WWPBaseObjects.CardWithMainImage, and WWPBaseObjects.CardsMenu, all checked. Add and References buttons appear on the left.

In this way it will be easier to reuse your customized templates.

For example, if you want to execute the "Design System Wizard" in order to have a completely new design in your Knowledge Base, you can export your current templates in order to save their customizations (Automatic Rules, Event Blocks, etc.) and once the new theme is applied, import the templates again.

Besides this new approach, the templates will be available for the WorkWithPlus Settings as usual:

The WorkWithPlus Pattern Settings editor highlights four toolbar tabs with red arrows: Transaction template (Main), Web Panel templates, Wizard templates, and Report templates. Below, the CreateData template is selected, showing its object tree (TableMain, Error viewer, TableContent, Panel WWP_TemplateDataPanelTitle, Action Group, Events & Subs, Variables) alongside a live preview panel titled 'General Information' with Attribute 1, Attribute 2, and Attribute 3 fields and Confirm/Cancel buttons.

With this new approach you will notice that working with the WorkWithPlus Settings is faster as the performance regarding the loading of the templates was improved.

From the WorkWithPlus Settings, you will be able to create new templates and modify the existing ones.
